What a week... On Monday I decided to use up a previous race prize - A visit to a sports chiropractor! After work I zipped over to Dr. Tanya Castro where I spent the best part of an hour being pulled, twisted, and cracked back into shape. Interesting experience and I felt awesome right after it. Advice prior to leaving was to drink lots of water, and that I'd probably hurt a bit the next day. Right!
Roll on Tuesday morning... I fell out of bed before 6am feeling like I'd gone a few rounds with Kimbo Slice. No time to get in my planned training ride... A quick spin around the immediate vicinity of my apartment to test out the Cervelo P3T had to suffice! Probably the shortest ride of my life, but damn it was fun! It's been a few years since I rode a track bike.. The last fixie experience I had was a Specialized Langster that was culled from my stable. My position on the bike (copied over from my P3C) felt super close... The only thing that needs some work is bringing back the extensions about 1/2" and widening the elbow pads. The road-SRM worked alright... Power seemed correct, and chainline wasn't too bad either. Phew!
After lots of debate, the bike is going to be named "Clootie". It's red, and I'm Scottish, so the name seems to fit!
I was scheduled to fit in some motorpacing on Tuesday night... That seems to be mission impossible on O'ahu. Either people are off-island, the timing doesn't work, their moto is out of commission etc. Luckily, a friend came through and helped me out. I rode out from Diamondhead onto Kalanianaole Hwy. and out to Koko Marina. Nothing too epic, just enough to get my fix of speed. For gearing I'm rolling a 53 x 14 for now which is just about right, but most likely I'll need to put on something a little more meaty! Riding into the wind was done at about 30mph... Nothing too crazy, and only one near death experience at an intersection. Coming back towards town was way better... Taking up a lane of the Hwy and doing +/- 35mph... Still not wicked speeds, but for the first MP ride on a new bike, riding fixed, feeling ill, with an inexperienced MP'er, it worked out just right.
