"Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules, and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence: in other words it is war minus the shooting. - George Orwell"

    173km's

The plan for today was to get in a solid 160km's training ride. I got out the door about 1.5hrs later than planned and it was already baking hot at 845am! I headed out of Mililani Mauka, down Kamehameha Hwy, drafted a Matson semi into Kipapa Gulch at 45+mph, and climbed most of the way out of K.G. at 36mph! In hindsight, this is not the way to start off a 5 hour ride.

I rode into Honolulu, through Waikiki and Kahala where I saw an Audi R8 and a Lambo Gallardo! From there I rode out to Makapu'u, Waimanalo, and up the Pali at a pace more suitable for a 1-2 hour ride. I figured I'd just keep pushing myself to find where my current physical limit is. A few hours later not far from the bottom of Pineapple Hill, I found that limit! The last 30km's of what ended up being a 173km ride were miserable, requiring a stop in Wahiawa for an ice cold coke to resuscitate the legs! I even though my legs were thoroughly thrashed by the time I got home, it was a quality ride in perfect weather.

    Stats for the ride
    Ride Time: 5hr 13mins
    Avg Speed 33.1kph
    Cadence: 74rpm
    Heart Rate: 150bpm
    Elevation Gain: 4449ft
    Average Temp: 32.3 Deg C
    Distance: 173km
    Energy: 4023kJ
