"It's a sport, but the bottom line is money. The bikes are lighter, but not that much so. Sure, the training has been refined but there's no substitute for doing the miles. - Ken Laidlaw - First Scottish cyclist to race the Tour de France."

    Makaha Time Trial

Today was the Makaha Time Trial - My first experience or organizing a race, but far from being a solo effort. It took a lot of team work from members of Pacific Velo to make it all come together, and the majority of feedback I've had was positive. Phew! A big thank you is definitely in order to Mike Proffitt, Aaron Wallen, Trish Havey, Tai Blechta, Leigh Ann (for her support), Frank Smith and the staff at IT&B, and all the sponsors that donated prizes, and anyone else that I might have forgotten to list...

Being involved with the race organization left me with a less than desired time to get in a good warmup. Typically I'd like a good hour of riding before a short and painful 10-mile effort, but I had to opt for the 10min warmup - Just enough to get the legs moving... kinda. I'd normally warmup on training wheels, then switch over to race wheels before rolling to the start, but I didn't have time to do that either. C'est la vie.

Last minute frantic tire inflation - Ben, I think I own you some kinda pump rental fee!

About to get the 15sec countdown from race official James Burke.

During my warmup it was hard to tell if there was a headwind / tailwind in either direction, probably due to an overall lack of serious wind. Quite a change from last weekend at the Castle TT. About 2 miles in, I had a game of chicken with a large pooch... I ended up picking the right side to pass it! Phew!!! Bike + 30mph + Big Dog = Never a happy outcome. The rest of the race was fairly uneventful... Go hard, don't crash at the turnaround (The roads were a bit wet), don't get a flat tire, and get the job done.
