    Riding the Cactus

My blog entries have been a bit thin recently, so here's an update on what's been going on.

On Jan 1, I started training on the TT bike... The first few rides, albeit LONG rides, on aerobars were akin to riding a cactus for a few hours. Over the past couple of weeks, the cactus is slowly mellowing out! I'm feeling more comfortable and my power is on the rise.

After a lot of asking around trying to find someone on O'ahu that has the equipment to run a lactate threshold test, I think I finally have a solution. No date set yet, but I'm going to put myself through a whole new world of pain and hopefully put out some respectable numbers. Well, probably not too respectable as it's only January, but I'll have valuable info, combined with my new coach, that should help me train a little more "smart".

Today is also a day of mixed feelings... It's exactly 1 year since Scottish TT superstar Jason Macintyre was tragically killed while out training. I find myself thinking about Jason at pretty much all of my training rides... He's was and still is a huge inspiration and has motivated me to focus more on my TT'ing.
