"It's a sport, but the bottom line is money. The bikes are lighter, but not that much so. Sure, the training has been refined but there's no substitute for doing the miles. - Ken Laidlaw - First Scottish cyclist to race the Tour de France."

    A crazy few days

After trying to make Internet Explorer play ball and let me post a blog entry, I gave up and tried Firefox - Voila! This is my first blog entry from my Dell Mini 9.

On Friday, I rode home from work at 5pm in weather that didn't look too awesome. By the time I got to Nimitz there were flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder. The thunderstorm got worse all the way to Mililani, but it wasn't raining... yet. Just before I was turning off Kam Hwy there was a blinding flash of lightning, followed by the street lighting going off. After a few mins it came back on. I made my turn onto Meheula Pkwy, there was another flash of lightning, then ALL the lights went out... No street lights, no traffic lights, nada... Complete darkness other than the light on my bike, and car headlights.

I stopped to try and capture some lightning forks with my camera, but it didn't quite work out:

    Pre lightning

    Instant daylight thanks to lightning!

Then the rain started! Torrential rain... awesome.

After I got home and took a quick shower, Leigh Ann made a few calls to see if any restaurants in other parts of the island had power... We didn't have much luck, but after a few calls we tried Pizza Hut. They told us that only two of their locations on O'ahu had power, one of them being Kapolei.

We got into the car and headed for pizza... Along with the rest of the island!

We called in a pizza order on the way to Kapolei, then right before we got there, Kapolei lost power. Awesome. Pizza Hut was packed with people scrambling to get their pizza, but ours wasn't ready... Not good! Eventually, they started selling orders that people hadn't come to pick up... We had a pizza in hand, but just as we were about to hand over cash for it, the customer arrived... Damn. This was proceeded by another mad scramble which resulted in a large pizza loaded with meat and cheese.

Score! The last pizza on O'ahu...

We scoffed that in the car then drove back to Mililani, then went to sleep.14hrs later, we finally had power restored!

On Saturday I decided to stay off the roads while the weather did it's thing. Leigh Ann and I watched Slumdog Millionaire at the cinema. Definitely one of the best movies I've seen in a long time, plus it had a snippet about Scotland that was funny.

After the movie we went to Whole Foods...

    Funny!

Today, I woke up at 6am to go training, and was riding on wet roads by 630am. I couldn't see the Koolau's thanks to dense rain clouds, so I decided to just ride out to Makapu'u and avoid the clouds. I got soaked a couple of times, but it would have been a crappy ride if I'd gone over the Pali.
