"I won't race ever again. When I was winning, it was lonely at the top. I was never happy. I had to completely remove myself from distractions, no friends, no life. It was the only way to dedicate oneself to the sport, and I can't do that again. I don't regret my approach, it's the way of a champion. - Geneviève Jeanson"

    Weekend photos...

Apart from racing Dick Evans, I spent the rest of the weekend chilling out with LA. On Saturday we cruised the Okinawan festival at Kapiolani Park... I think our main excuse for going there was to load up on Andagi (sweet deep fried buns of dough similar to donuts, native to Okinawa)...

    Andagi - dissected.

We also had a couple Anda-dogs, which is basically Andagi + Hotdog. Great stuff.

Monday was Labor Day in the US which meant that I actually got a day off work! LA and I headed over to Haleiwa, had a picnic in the park with a mic of sub's from Storto's Deli, and some shrimp and rice for elsewhere. Ono kine grindz! After eating, and taking a local-style post-food-nap, we headed over to Matsumoto's for shave ice. The line there was insanely long so we ended up going to Aoki's instead.

    Aoki's Shave Ice in Haleiwa.

The line there was only marginally shorter, but the shave ice was awesome. I went with their Tropical Mix with vanilla ice cream.

After our shave ice binge we drove out to Kaena Pt. - The end of the paved road on the west side of O'ahu. The road continues around Kaena Pt. to Wainae, but requires some off-road driving.

On the drive back towards Haleiwa we stopped off to check out a bunch of people kite-surfing.
